Indoor readings are part of the picture

The right next step can depend on what is outside.

Opening a window can improve one problem and introduce another. Outdoor pollution, smoke, dust, rain, heat or strong wind can change whether ventilation makes sense now.

Link combines paired Aura readings with available outdoor conditions and emerging environmental risks. You can see which rooms need attention, what is happening outside and whether a better ventilation window is approaching.

Different risks need different signals.

Open-Meteo provides the core local weather and outdoor air context. Link is also integrating broader atmospheric, hazard and official-warning sources. Coverage and refresh frequency vary by provider and region.

Local observations, forecasts, regional models and hazard signals serve different purposes. Link keeps their source and freshness visible so a broad model signal is not presented as a confirmed reading at your home. Open-Meteo air-quality forecasts incorporate CAMS data, while Link's separate CAMS layer adds broader regional model context.

Hub keeps the local network together. Link brings it with you.

Hub is the local Aura centre. Link adds remote visibility, broader environmental context and a planned remote-control path after you choose to pair them.

After optional pairing, Link is planned to provide remote control of selected compatible Zigbee, Thread and Bluetooth Low Energy devices connected through Hub, as well as future Aura control Satellites. Internet and an online Hub would be required, but supported setups would not need a separate third-party hub or Home Assistant. Device compatibility and safety boundaries are not final.

Personalised environmental alerts

Planned opt-in preferences would let you choose the locations, conditions and alert level that matter to you. If pollen affects you, Link could warn when it rises. Other alerts could focus on smoke, fine particles, ozone, heat or humidity, including when opening a window may bring a problem indoors.

Link adds reach without removing local control.

Hub and Aura devices communicate over local Wi-Fi. That network does not need internet access for local monitoring. Internet is required for Link features such as provider feeds, remote access, hosted history, notifications and reports.

Why Aura AQ Link will be paid.

External data providers, database storage, notification delivery, backups and reliable server infrastructure create ongoing costs. A low-cost subscription is planned to support those online services and their continued development.

Local Aura features will remain available without Link. Final pricing and public-access details will be published before subscriptions are offered.

Why I am building Aura AQ Link

While developing the Aura ecosystem, I realised that local sensor readings are only part of the picture. Outdoor conditions can determine whether ventilation helps or makes the room worse.

I started Link to give Hub that wider context and to make paired Aura devices useful when you are away from home. The goal is practical guidance, remote monitoring and useful reports, not another weather forecast.

I also want Aura to keep working without it. Link is an opt-in extension with ongoing infrastructure costs, while the local system remains independent. The private alpha is still changing, and community feedback can shape what reaches public access.

What is confirmed today.

These answers will be updated as Link moves through private alpha.

Do I need Aura AQ Link to use Aura devices or Hub?

No. Aura devices and Aura AQ Hub can keep their local monitoring core on local Wi-Fi without a Link subscription or internet connection.

Which features need an internet connection?

Outdoor provider feeds, remote monitoring, Link-hosted history, delivered notifications and reports need internet access. Local readings and communication between Aura devices and Hub do not.

Is the public demo the real interface?

Yes. It is a working read-only version of the Link interface. Indoor device entries use privacy-safe sample data, while outdoor provider data is live where shown.

Which notifications are available today?

Browser push is being tested in private alpha. Email, Discord, Telegram, Microsoft Teams and webhook delivery are in development and will be validated channel by channel.

Will Link personalise alerts for allergies or other sensitivities?

That is planned, not available today. You would choose the conditions, locations and alert level yourself. For example, Link could warn when grass, birch or mugwort pollen rises. Other preferences could focus on smoke, PM2.5, ozone, heat, humidity or safer ventilation windows. Link would not infer or diagnose a medical condition.

Can Link control external devices?

Not today. After optional pairing, Link is planned to reach selected compatible Zigbee, Thread and Bluetooth Low Energy devices through an online Hub, as well as future Aura control Satellites. Internet would be required for remote control, but supported setups would not need a separate third-party hub or Home Assistant. Device compatibility, protocol roles and safety boundaries are not final.

Can I get full Aura AQ Link access?

You can create an Aura account and explore the read-only demo now. Full Link access remains in private alpha and is enabled only for approved accounts.

How much will Aura AQ Link cost?

Link is planned as a paid, low-cost service. Final pricing and public access details will be published before subscriptions become available.
